Chipping Norton Town Hall

Solar PV • 2011

In the final Community Sustainable Energy Programme (CSEP) round before it closed at the end of 2010, RDC prepared a feasibility study on energy efficiency and installation of solar PV for the Town Hall in the centre of Chipping Norton for the local Council.

A thorough energy audit was conducted on this Grade II* listed historic building which revealed that through pipe lagging, roof and ceiling insulation, secondary glazing, new boiler plant, a total of 42% reduction in heat demand could be realised, paying back in under 5 years.

Because of the imminent roof repairs, it was suggested to install a 10 kWp PV array situated low down on the west and east pitches to satisfy local planners, to make a further £ 2,850 annual savings in electricity. A CSEP grant was applied for in January 2011 for 50% of the capital cost and it is hopeful that a successful funding outcome will soon be reached.
